Our Objective

Time Air Historical Society

Our objective of the Time Air Historical Society is to celebrate, remember, educate, and inspire.

We want to celebrate and remember the people, places, and stories within the Canadian Aviation Mosaic. Our hope is to inspire and educate the next generation of flyers, with the ultimate goal of continuing the mosaic.

The Society’s goals are to properly archive the multitude of memories from former employees that tell our story. We are currently acquiring historical artifacts to be displayed in an an eventual museum. The museum is to be located at the airport in Lethbridge AB, where it all began.

Founding the Society

During a 45th Anniversary reunion in 2011, many former employees expressed the desire to stay in touch. The Facebook groups “Remembering Time Air” and “Time Air/Canadian Regional Airlines” were created. Shortly thereafter, two founding members began research into the former aircraft fleet, and the final history of those aircraft. Soon after, the pair were able to identify and find many of the diverse former fleet. This quickly lead to the formation of the Society.

In late 2017, N330AC (formerly C-GTAV), a Short SD3-30 aircraft was found to be still in existence. After confirmation of the air frame, Air Cargo Carriers of Milwaukee, Wisconsin graciously donated the frame.

With the donation of this airframe the need to form an official Society started. This aircraft will be one of only two Short SD3-30 in the world to be displayed in an airline livery.

In June of 2018, formal Not for Profit Society status was obtained and the Time Air Historical Society was founded.

Gathering the Pieces

In July of 2018, a request to possibly save pieces of a Fokker F-28-1000 was put forth. Enough pieces were collected, to be able to put together a small cabin mock-up, for eventual display. C-GTEO, one of the original F-28’s with Time Air, was the main source for those parts.

In fall of 2019, a second request was made into the possibility of saving a near-complete F-28-1000. Through a successful gofundme campaign, the Time Air Historical Society was able to purchase C-GTAV in September of 2020.

This aircraft was introduced in a special bare metal Silver Anniversary livery, the only aircraft to wear those colours. This Dutch-built aircraft will also be one of only two F-28’s around the world to be displayed in an airline livery.

In May of 2021, the Time Air Historical Society acquired C-FTAP. The aircraft was the last Convair CV-580 purchased by the company. This aircraft has the unique distinction of formerly being the corporate transport for Domino’s Pizza! This aircraft was donated through the cooperation of Air Spray Air Tankers and Nolinor Aviation. This will possibly be the only Convair CV-580 displayed in an airline livery.

In June of 2021, the Time Air Historical Society acquired deHavilland Canada Twin Otter C-GBPE (formerly CF-QHC with Time Air). Built in 1967, the aircraft was the demonstrator aircraft for de Havilland Canada during that time period. Through the generous donation from Rocky Mountain Aircraft, this will be one of the earliest Twin Otters built, to be displayed.

In Closing

The Time Air Historical Society will continue to strive to enlarge our fleet, and with it, expand our story.

We look forward to working with the many various aviation entities around Alberta and beyond, to expand the story beyond just Time Air.

Our vision includes detailing the storied role Lethbridge played in aviation during and beyond the Second World War.

From the pioneering days of flying in Canada to early Trans-Continental and International Air Service, these stories will continue to evolve.

We look forward to the future, and appreciate and welcome everyone’s support.
